Corporal Daniel Chesnut Co B

Corporal Daniel Chesnut was the brother of fellow Co B soldier, 1st Lt. Samuel Chesnut.

He was born  30 Nov 1837 in Ross County, Ohio.  He married  Clara A. Veal on 10 Jan 1867 in Ross County, Ohio - his marriage license in the record books lists him as Daniel Chesnut, but the index at the side of the page lists him as David Chesnut.

Daniel and Clara raised the following children:

1. Bertha Mary Chesnut - b. 16 March 1868 in Ross County, Ohio, d. 29 July 1907.

2. Bessie M. Chesnut - b. 27 Feb 1871 in Ross County, Ohio, m. Hiram McCauley about 1892 in Ross County, Ohio, d. after 1915.

3. Lillie F. Chesnut - b. 5 Oct 1873 in Ross County, Ohio, m. Edward Augustus Derringer on 29 Oct 1891, d. 17 Dec 1955.

4. Helen Grace Chesnut - b. 28 March 1879 in Ross County, Ohio, m. Henry C. Sperry, d. 25 March 1913 (suicide) in Franklin County, Ohio.

Daniel died 19 March 1915 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio.  He and Clara are buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio. 

He enlisted on 1/1/62 at the age of 23.  He mustered out on 3/22/65, following his release from captivity.
