Descendants Commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Regiment's Involvement at the Battle of Chickamauga September 2013
On the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga, twenty-one descendants met at Chickamauga to commemorate their ancestors involvement in the second largest battle of the Civil War. Dodging raindrops for most of the day, the intrepid descendants trekked over the various places on the great battlefield where the 26th Ohio were many years ago. Also visited were Orchard's Knob, Chattanooga National Cemetery, and Missionary Ridge.

The highlight of the weekend was a poignant ceremony held at the regiment's beautiful monument at the Viniard Field, where so many of the Groundhog Regiment gave their lives in the titanic struggles the afternoon of September 19, 1863. A beautiful wreath, flags, and a couple buckeye seeds from their native state were placed at the monument.
