John Folkert, Co. F hailed from Guernsey County, Ohio.  He was a farmer. He lived on the same plat of land his entire life.  He was a good friend of fellow Co. F comrade, Alfred Weedon.  He married Alfred's cousin, and in turn his daughter married Alfred's widowed son-in-law.  He was promoted to Corporal of the same company. He reenlisted as a veteran and served out the remainder of the war. He maintained a diary throughout his enlistment.
